The system requirements checklist below acts as a guide that helps you take tests on Owlya without any difficulty.
1. Network Speed
Owlya requires certain minimum upload bandwidths for loading online tests:
- 1Mbps for non-proctored and AI-proctored tests.
- 10Mbps for proctored and AI-proctored test
- 5Mbps Mbps for “Record answer” question type
You can check your network speed at the following websites:
If your network speed exceeds these minimums, you should be able to take the test without issues.
2. Supported Browsers
Owlya tests are compatible with the following browsers (the latest three versions recommended):
- Chrome
- Firefox
- Safari
- Microsoft Edge
3. Browser Settings
Ensure you have the correct browser version. If you encounter difficulties starting a test, it might be due to your browser’s pop-up blocker settings.
To adjust these:
- For Mozilla Firefox on Windows:
- Go to Menu > Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Under the Permissions section, uncheck ‘Block pop-up windows’.
- For Google Chrome:
- Navigate to chrome://settings/, then go to ‘Privacy and Security’ > ‘Site Settings’ > ‘Pop-ups and Redirects’ and select ‘Sites can send pop-ups and use redirects’.
- For Microsoft Edge:
- Access edge://settings/content/popups, then go to Settings > Cookies and Site Permissions > Pop-ups and Redirects and disable ‘Block’.
Restart the browser after making these changes.
Additional Browser Setting
- Ensure your webcam and microphone are functioning properly by taking the preview test and following its prompts.
- Confirm that you have a stable internet connection.
- Keep your system time accurate using the auto-set feature.
- Update your operating system and applications, and disable security updates and antivirus definitions to avoid interference during the test. For Windows, disable automatic updates by navigating to Start > Run > type “services.msc” and stop the ‘Automatic Updates’ service.
- Clear your browser’s cache and cookies before starting the test by pressing “CTRL + SHIFT + DELETE” and selecting ‘Clear Cache’.
4. Things To Note:
Taking A Test On Owlya
- Ensure you have a working webcam.
- Take the preview test and follow all of its prompts.
- Make sure you have the recommended internet connection.
- Have a working microphone. Do the audio test.
- Your system time should be up to date. Use autoset to correct it.
- Update your Windows or MacBook.
5. How To Update System Time and Date
You can set the date and time automatically on your device using a network server.
For Mac
- Navigate to the Apple menu and select System Settings. Then, choose General from the sidebar and click on Date & Time.
- Enable the option labelled “Set time and date automatically.” Afterwards, click Set and provide a network time server appropriate for your region.
- Lastly, activate the option labelled “Set time zone automatically using your current location.”
For Windows
- Access Start, then navigate to the Settings icon, and select Time & Language. Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed.
- In the Date and Time section, toggle the Set time automatically switch to enable or disable it. Then, select Change to input the correct date and time. Confirm the action by tapping Change.
- Toggle the Set time zone automatically switch to enable or disable it.
- Adjust the time zone by clicking the dropdown icon and selecting the appropriate location to set a time zone manually.
- Optionally, toggle the Adjust for daylight saving time automatically switch to enable or disable it.
- Customize date and time formats by navigating to Formats at the bottom of the Date and Time settings.
Ensure your time is correct so that time stamps on your emails, messages, and files are accurate.
